Operation Rescue Ethiopia (ORE) started in Mekelle in 2000 and focuses its energy on ministering holistically to around 400 full and half-orphans and their families. The children are well-loved in this program, and this can be clearly seen when you meet them and have the privilege of spending some time at the ORE compound! FOP was introduced to ORE in 2006 and was immediately impressed with their dedication to those they serve and the integrity of the staff.
In 2007, FOP partnered with ORE to fund the first of several residential homes in Mekelle for kids who needed housing due to death of relatives, HIV status, or being in transition as they were rescued from the streets. Though only one home remains with just 5 teenagers in care, FOP remains committed to these young people until they graduate from vocational training or university.
In 2010, Fields of Promise partnered with Operation Rescue (ORE), a local NGO, to expand their project to Adigrat, Ethiopia, a town about 2 hours drive NE of Mekele. The community-based childcare project hosts 60 children loved on by 9 amazing staff to enable the children to grow and thrive.
The compound is open Monday to Friday from 8-5, providing tutoring, spiritual devotions, hot lunch, a health and hygiene program, and fantastic recreation opportunities.
Fields of Promise volunteers travel each year to deliver materials and letters from sponsors. It is a joy to see the children grown from year to year and to share in their successes and encourage them in their struggles. Please consider joining us in sponsorship!
